Vaucluse home of Carmen and Steve Davidson sells for $35m+ after four days on the market
December 23, 2021 - Australia
The Vaucluse home of savvy property investors Carmen and Steve Davidson has sold for more than $35m in just four days, more than double what they bought it for three years ago.
The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom residence with 11-car garage, pool and tennis court on 2000 sqm at 178 Hopetoun Ave was listed last Thursday with The Agency’s Steven Chen.
When contacted on Wednesday, Chen confirmed that the property — purchased for $17m in 2018 — had sold yesterday and the result was “consistent” with the price guide of “more than $35m”.
He was unable to confirm the exact price or the identity of the purchaser due to a confidentiality agreement.

Stylish interiors by Michael Suttor.
Fine dining.
The Davidsons did a significant renovation after buying the home, lifting it the level it had once been.
The house had been designed by the renowned architect, Michael Suttor, 15 years before.
The huge profit, which equates to a cool $6m a year during their ownership, is yet another example of the Davidson’s astute property prowess.
Three years ago they took a 2,679 sqm Oxford St, Bondi Junction site — home of their long-held Continental tyres and Bondi Junction Auto Services business along with several other adjoining properties they’d accumulated — to market with $40m hopes.

There’s parking for 11 cars.
It’s still in their name, but they have a very nice development application for apartments approved by Waverley Council.
Their site is next to another commercial-turned-residential site, now home to Sydney developer TWT Property Group’s 70-unit NewLife Bondi Junction project.
They’d also previously owned the Keepers Cottage, close by Macquarie Lighthouse, at 15 Old South Head Rd.
They’d bought the leasehold property for $2.52m in 2002, renovated it in 2010 and sold it for $7.5m to Nanshan Group’s Song family for $7.5m in 2016.

There’s no doubting the strong appeal of their Vaucluse home: it offers three levels of living and entertaining with 1500 sqm of internal space.
There are also magnificent harbour views and direct access to Gibsons Beach.
The tennis court is championship-size and the pool is 20m long and heated.
Inside, the home has a grand entry foyer and sweeping staircase and the gourmet kitchen is a classic Suttor design.

It also comes with a home cinema, rumpus room and entertainment areas and an internal lift glides between all three levels.
A separate guest quarters has its own private access.
