Bath Abbey - Built as a monastery for nuns in 675, Bath Abbey has a storied history and has undergone many transformations. Today the magnificent abbey comprises the Anglo-Saxon monastery and Norman Cathedral, and provides a sacred centre for worship, music and reflection. There are countless features to admire; the intricate stained glass windows, original 1500's fan vaulted ceiling, delicate stone carvings and the King Edgar window, depicting the first king of England being crowned on the site in 973.

Roman Baths - Dedicated to the life-giving goddess Sulis, the world famous Roman Baths were constructed around 70AD as a religious spa and temple, but also as a centre for socialising and enjoying the luxury of bathing in warm, clean water. The baths are the only remaining thermal springs in the UK and one of the best preserved Roman remains in the world. Visitors can walk on the original ancient pavements, see the Sacred Spring and take in the serene beauty of the Great Bath.

The Royal Crescent - The imposing Royal Crescent is one of Bath's most recognisable buildings and among the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the UK. The 150-metre sweeping crescent of 30 Grade I Listed terrace houses is arranged around a perfectly manicured lawn leading to the original ha-ha and on to Royal Victoria Park. Many notable people have lived or stayed at the Royal Crescent, including Sir Isaac Pitman himself. Visitors will still see the controversial yellow door and shutters at No. 22, retained after a hard-fought battle by resident Miss Amabel Wellesley-Colley in 1972.

Pulteney Bridge - The 18th century, Grade I Listed Pulteney Bridge is arguably the most iconic and romantic of Bath's many landmarks. An elaborate Palladian style structure inspired by the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, it is one of just four bridges in the world lined with shops on both sides. Even locals can't fail to be drawn by its stunning architecture and bustling atmosphere. Peruse the charming independent shops offering gifts, antiques and luxury clothing, then stop in one of the cafés boasting spectacular river views.

The 5.3 acre Bath Press site was once home to Pitman's Fifth Phonetic Institute and then the Pitman Press, later becoming The Bath Press, the city's largest employer.

Resume your journey towards the city with a peaceful meander along the river.
