8 Gillespie Wynd has an extraordinary setting between The Scores and North Steet in central St Andrews. The wynd (narrow path) leads from North Street, between gardens, to The Scores.

The Scores is the iconic street which runs from the 18th green of the world famous Old Course and the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse, along the cliff tops above the sea, to the ruins of St Andrews Castle.

The property is ideally placed for access to the Old Course and the other golf courses operated by The St Andrews Links Trust, as well as the West Sands beach, the university and for all the shops, pubs and restaurants in North Street, South Street and Market Street. The University of St Andrews is one of the oldest in Britain (founded in 1413) and attracts students from all over the world.

St Andrews is renowned worldwide as "the home of golf". There are now seven golf courses at St Andrews including the Old Course, host to the 150th Open Championship in 2022. There are many other golf courses in the area including two courses at St Andrews Bay, The Dukes Course, Kingsbarns, Crail, Dumbarnie and Elie.

The Royal Burgh of St Andrews has several primary schools and state secondary schooling at Madras College and private co-educational schooling at St Leonards. Dundee High School is within easy reach. The town has a good range of shops, hotels, restaurants and supermarkets, a cinema and the Byre Theatre.

Beyond St Andrews is the East Neuk of Fife with its spectacular coastline which boasts fishing villages built around picturesque harbours and sandy unspoilt beaches. Leuchars railway station (4 miles) is on the main Aberdeen to London line and connects to Dundee and Edinburgh. Edinburgh Airport, with its range of domestic and international flights, is only 50 miles away.

8 Gillespie Wynd is a semi-detached cottage which was originally built as a chauffeur's cottage to one of the large houses on The Scores. Part of the ground floor was a garage but has been incorporated into the accommodation of the house.

The house is reached by a door from the wynd. It has its own gate to the parking area off the lane in front of the house. The accommodation is arranged over two floors with the sitting room, kitchen and dining hall being on the upper floor and comprises:

Tiled entrance vestibule with former coal store off. Half glazed door to hall with wooden and parquet floor, stairs to first floor and deep, under stairs store.

Two south facing bedrooms, one with a walk in cupboard with hanging rail. Shower room with electric shower, WC, wash basin and linen cupboard with hot water cylinder.

First floor landing with storage cupboard and dining area. Sitting room with brick fireplace and display shelves with cupboard below.

8 Gillespie Wynd owns a triangular area in front which is used as a car parking space. There is a right of access along the lane.

Directions

Driving into St Andrews on the A91 continue straight on at the roundabout towards North Street. The lane to 8 Gillespie Wynd is the first opening on the left after Golf Place.

Alternatively, the opening to Gillespie Wynd is on the pavement alongside The Scores next to the Scores Hotel. Follow this wynd (narrow path) left and right to reach the front door to the house.
