From the cottage, a footpath leads up to the ridge leading to Corfe Castle with spectacular views over the Purbeck hills and Poole Harbour.

In the village are the church of St Peter, the village hall and a public house.

Corfe Castle, world famous for its castle ruins is about 2 miles away and offers further amenities such as a village shop, The Green Goat Deli, hotels, restaurants and pubs and a short distance away, The Weld Arms at Lulworth.

The walled Saxon town of Wareham, with a Sainsbury’s supermarket and mainline railway station to London Waterloo is about five miles, and the Heritage steam railway from Corfe Castle connects with the Victorian seaside town of Swanage, about 4 miles away.

The UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast starts at Studland Bay, and includes incredible beaches and further along the coast, geological formations such as Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.

A charming period cottage having appealing elevations of local Purbeck stone under a slate roof, with planning permission for a traditional car port and garden room with guest suite over and utility extension to the cottage.

The beautifully presented accommodation includes an entrance porch with front door opening into the dining hall, with flagstone floor, fireplace recess and understairs cupboard. The good size sitting room has triple aspect windows including French doors to the garden and a log burner on a polished Purbeck stone hearth, and there is a further reception room which could be used as a formal dining room or ground floor fifth bedroom. The attractive hand painted kitchen has wood worktops, Belfast sink, integrated dishwasher and a range cooker with extractor hood over. Leading off the kitchen is a rear hallway/ boot room and cloakroom.

On the first floor are the main bedroom which has a vaulted ceiling and two double fitted wardrobes, whilst the rear guest bedroom has a glazed shower with rainhead fitting. There are two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Most rooms in the cottage enjoy lovely views over the gardens and across to the hills of the surrounding countryside beyond.

The property has a private gated driveway with paved parking area for several cars, approached via a right of way along the adjoining farm track.

The pretty cottage gardens surround the property and are lawned with a wide variety of shrubs, herbaceous plants and trees. There are several terraces for different times of the day including an elevated corner patio with summerhouse with lovely views over the valley, perfect for evening drinks, and a useful storage shed.

Directions

Driving from Wareham, proceed into Corfe Castle. Just before you reach the Castle ruins, turn right signposted Church Knowle. Follow this road into Church Knowle and you will find the drive to Fossil Cottage, 3 Church Knowle adjacent to the red telephone box.
