The Barns is situated in the village of Thorndon that provides good local facilities including a primary school, a community shop and a public house. Further facilities are available in Eye which has a bakery, a small supermarket, a private theatre, schooling, a health centre and local hospital. The market town of Diss provides a range of shopping, cultural, educational and recreational facilities. Framlingham to the south east has excellent schooling in both the private and state sectors with Framlingham College & Thomas Mills. Hartismere and Debenham High School, also highly sought after are both nearby and within catchment. The larger market towns of Ipswich, Norwich and Bury St Edmunds are readily accessible with their large shopping centres, and the commuter can take advantage of direct train services to London's Liverpool Street Station from either Stowmarket or Diss
