Whitfield Farm Cottage is situated about ½ mile from Poundbury, a master-planned community on the western edge of the historic County town of Dorchester.

Poundbury has a collection of independent shops including a garden centre, an award-winning wine merchant, numerous coffee shops and also a Waitrose supermarket.

About 1.3 miles away from the property is the county town of Dorchester, which has access to a further excellent range of facilities including Dorset County Hospital, many independent and national shops, a good number of restaurants, public houses and supermarkets including Tesco, Lidl and Waitrose.


The Wednesday market is a favourite local attraction.

Travel connections include bus services in the town and a mainline railway station to London Waterloo (2 hours 40 minutes).

About 9.2 miles away and on the trainline is the coastal resort of Weymouth, with access to the marina, old harbour, Chesil Beach and the Jurassic coastline.

There are lovely local walks along the river Frome from the house and fishing permits can be applied for from the Dorchester Fishing Club.

There are well regarded schools in the area, both state and private, including the top performing Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester.

Whitfield Farm Cottage is an extremely attractive unlisted, attached country property, with part stone, part brick elevations under a thatched roof. Believed to date back to the 18th century with a kitchen extension being added in the 1990’s, the house has spacious accommodation over two floors and some lovely rooms with period features. A thatched porch at the front door opens into a good sized hall with attractive exposed ceiling timbers, beyond which is the large farmhouse kitchen (approx. 28ft) with AGA and French doors into a secluded courtyard. Leading off the hall is the drawing room with inglenook fireplace and exposed ceiling beams; following through from here, is an additional reception room, also with fireplace. Off the kitchen there is a utility room and cloakroom leading to a good sized double bedroom with en suite shower room and separate access to the garden. Upstairs there is a spacious principal bedroom with en suite shower room, three further bedrooms, all with fitted wardrobes, and a family bathroom. Many of the rooms enjoy views over the gardens or the water meadows to the east.

Whitfield Farm Cottage is approached from Poundbury Road via a bridleway, alongside which is the paddock. The drive continues towards the house, bordered on one side by a neatly manicured lawn, and the other by the double garage, flower beds and a parking area for several cars. There is a large west facing patio at the front of the property. The garden wraps around the property to the east and is separated from the water meadows along the Frome by a natural spring. Immediately to the rear of the house facing south is a secluded courtyard accessed via the kitchen.

Directions

In Dorchester head west on the Bridport road from the Top O’town roundabout and take the first right onto Poundbury Road. Proceed for about one mile, passing over the A37 and down the hill. After about 100 yards, the entrance to Whitfield Farm Cottage is located on the right hand side.
