Gaastmeer is a beloved water sports destination in the heart of the Frisian lake district, with beautiful boating routes to the Oudegaaster Brekken, Fluessen/Heegermeer, and Workum. Gaastmeer is easily accessible from the A6, and via the water sports village of Heeg, you can reach Gaastmeer within 5 minutes. Historically, Gaastmeer was a wealthy village where eel trade once flourished. Gaastmeer was one of the most important export locations to London. Farmhouse Marsicht was built in 1875 at the request of Wieger Jans Visser. The building was used as an office and storage for provisions for the crew of eel barges. The Visser family was a co-founder of the eel trade in London.
The current owners have renovated Marsicht into a comfortable home that is also future-proof, using excellent materials while preserving the original gentleman’s room with a box bed, a cozy living room with high ceilings, and sturdy beams.
