Location

Whiterashes is a hamlet which lies northwest of Newmachar and approximately (3 miles) southeast of Oldmeldrum.

Newmachar is a pleasant village and is well served by various local shops, a post office, library and public transport connections. The location offers easy accessibility to Aberdeen City and is particularly convenient for the airport and the oil related offices at Dyce, Bridge of Don and Westhill Industrial Estates. Primary schooling and private nursery facilities are available at Newmachar and nearby Dyce offers secondary education together with a wider range of shops and a medical centre. Dyce railway station is just a ten minute drive away. There are many recreational attractions available in the area including forest and hill walks along with salmon and sea trout fishing on the River Don. Two 18 hole golf courses and a driving range are available at Swailend, Newmachar, one of which is of championship standard.

Oldmeldrum is a small market town known as the "Granary of Aberdeen" for its production of high quality barley. One of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, Glen Garioch was founded in 1797 and is situated in the town boasting a visitor centre and gift shop. Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Club was voted as one of the best places to stay in 2021 by The Sunday Times. The town is also home to the historic Oldmeldrum Golf Club, where golf has been played for 125 years. There are a range of local shops and restaurants. Schooling is available at Meldrum Academy. Only (6 miles) away is the town of Inverurie with a host of shopping and recreational facilities plus a railway station.

Description

This stunning mansion house is understood to have originally been built around 1818. The current owners lavished a great deal of time, expertise and expense to transform and rebuild the walled ruin in 2015/2016 to create the outstanding home it is today. Spanning 3.5 floors, Pittrichie Mansion House has been beautifully restored in the original style and is presented in show home order. Features include ornate and plain cornices, ceiling roses and high ceilings. Flooring includes walnut boards, porcelain tiles and marble tiling. The luxury dining kitchen, the larder and the utility room are fitted with fine handcrafted cabinets by Laings of Inverurie who also supplied the sanitaryware. There are two ground floor open fires and a lower ground floor wood burning stove. Most of the radiators are a traditional chunky column style.

An ornate dressed granite pillared private entrance with two sweeping tarmacadam driveways edged with cobbles leads to the courtyard buildings; at the front of the house is a large gravelled circular driveway. This sets the tone for an impressive arrival which continues with a central granite walled shrub bed and ornamental fountain. A stunning external horseshoe-shaped staircase showcases the specification and attention to detail evident throughout the property. The staircase incorporates dressed grey granite steps and landing, pointed granite sides and ornate metal balustrades. Storm doors open into the entrance vestibule. At this level are the main reception rooms offering superb entertaining and circulation space. At the lower level, the heart of the home is the stunning dining kitchen which is fitted with a comprehensive range of hand crafted cabinets, drawers and shelves. These are complemented by polished granite worksurfaces with bevelled edges. The central island incorporates storage units and an overhang breakfast bar. A focal point is the oil fired four oven black AGA and an adjoining AGA module with electric oven, hob and extractor hood. Other appliances include a dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and a Microlift Dumb Waiter between the kitchen and dining room above. For everyday domestic tasks there is a utility room with floor and wall cabinets along one wall.

The elegant drawing room has an open fire which has a white marble hearth and ornate mantelpiece with a delightful front aspect. The formal dining room has an open fire within a white marble hearth. A more casual and cosy ambience is found in the family room with an oval wood burning stove mounted on a polished black granite hearth with a pointed stone recess.

There are a total of four luxurious bathrooms/showers along with four double bedrooms . On the lower ground floor a shower room has an oversized enclosure with tiled floor with rain head and hand-held heads, vanity unit with wash basin and WC with wall mounted bidet style kit. The principal bedroom suite has a superb en suite bathroom featuring a freestanding oval ended roll top bath with ornate legs and mixer tap shower attachment; an oversized shower enclosure, vanity furniture with twin wash basins, marble top, seating area and wall mirror. Bedroom two has an en suite shower room with vanity furniture and a second floor shower room services the two bedrooms on this level.

At the rear of the house is a superb U shaped range of linked buildings set around a cobbled courtyard. The buildings were constructed in 2016 and designed to echo a traditional stone-built steading, and they offer fantastic flexibility. The ground floor is currently sub-divided with a car port, workshop, triple garage, bar with cloakroom with WC and wash hand basin, garden store and wine cellar. The first floor of the building has velux roof windows and includes a games room, gym and home office. There is a belt of mature deciduous trees surrounding most of the perimeter. Two specially created ponds are edged with stone slabs and provide charming focal points. The remaining grounds are mostly laid in lawn. Other garden structures include an aluminium-framed greenhouse with a slabbed floor and fitted sink, a mower shed and a small aluminium-framed glasshouse for seating near the gated entrance.
