Location

Charmouth is a delightful village in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty situated on the Jurassic coastline, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The beach is renowned for its fossils, and a great attraction for both amateur and experienced hunters alike.

The village offers excellent amenities including newsagents/general store, bakery, hairdresser, doctors surgery, library, restaurants and pubs.

Much of the surrounding countryside is in the control of the National Trust and there are an abundance of footpaths within easy access including the South West coastal path.

The historic resort of Lyme Regis is just over 3 miles and provides sailing, fishing, many independent shops and a variety of pubs and restaurants.

Bridport, the vibrant market town and creative hub, is just over 6 miles away with various supermarkets, a further variety of independent shops and restaurants.

Axminster, a similar distance, has a mainline railway station to London Waterloo.

The larger city of Exeter lies circa 32 miles away, with an international airport and large range of additional facilities.

There are good schools in the area both state and private. A primary school in Charmouth, Woodroffe secondary school in Lyme Regis and Colyton Grammar. Private schools including Perrott Hill Prep, Sherborne School for boys; Sherborne School for girls, Leweston, Bryanston, Canford and Milton Abbey.

Description

Cliff House is a superb coastal home, built in the early 1980’s, has been significantly updated and improved in recent years by the present owners. As the name suggests, the house was built to take full advantage of some outstanding uninterrupted views towards the Marshwood Vale and over Lyme Bay, taking in Golden Cap and Portland Bill to the East with the Cobb at Lyme Regis and beyond to the West. The house has been organised with the principal rooms all having the benefit of the views, with an upside-down configuration. The living accommodation is dominated by an outstanding principal sitting room with a triple aspect. Also on this floor is a well fitted kitchen with central island unit and dining area, a study and utility area with separate WC. From the spacious hallway, stairs lead down to the lower floor which has four large double bedrooms, two shower rooms and a bathroom.

Outside
The house is approached via electrically operated gates beyond which a driveway runs past the house to an area for parking and a detached garage. Beyond that is a large workshop or summerhouse in a glorious elevated situation. The gardens drop gently away from the house with a mixture of lawned areas and more natural habitats. At the lower garden a bench is strategically placed to take advantage of the breathtaking views south over Lyme Bay, Black Ven, the Cobb and Portland Bill with the Devil's Bellows as a backdrop. Immediately to the west side of the house is a terrace which lead up to a walled seating area.

Directions

Proceed up the hill in central Charmouth and towards the top turn left into Old Lyme Road. Proceed along Old Lyme Road and Cliff House is the last property, straight ahead at the end of the road.
