Location

Ferry Lane is a coveted location in Medmenham, a lane of pretty, mostly character homes that leads to the river Thames. A public slipway is at the foot of the lane giving access to the water for local residents. Medmenham is delightfully rural yet perfectly positioned for access to both Marlow and Henley-on-Thames, being 3.5 miles and 4.5 miles respectively.

The towns of Marlow and Henley offer an eclectic mix of local independent and national retailers. There are numerous bars, cafes and restaurants around the towns suited for any occasion. Both towns are situated on the banks of the River Thames and the Thames Path follows the river through the towns.

Just outside the town centres, the area opens out to glorious rolling countryside and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Outdoor pursuits are numerous, as are golf, football, cricket and rugby clubs. For commuters, both towns have train stations to Paddington (via Maidenhead and/or Twyford) and the M40 and M4 motorways are accessed from the A404(M) which pass the towns. A comprehensive range of private and state schooling options in the area include Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, Eton, Harrow, Wycombe Abbey, Caldicot Preparatory School and some excellent schools in the Maidenhead and Henley area.

Description

Forming part of a Grade II-listed terrace of four cottages built in the early 19th century, Sharrow Cottage is an utterly charming home on one of Medmenham’s loveliest roads which leads from the heart of the village down to the banks of the river Thames and the Thames Path.

The cottage is dressed in brick and flint and has excellent character which has been well preserved internally, despite being extended and renovated in the 1960s. The wooden porch over the front door is original, and internally there are a number of character features including exposed beams and bricks, slate-tiled floors and the newer addition of a wood-burning stove. The house is attractively presented and has been fully updated to include underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, a new kitchen and a modernised bathroom. The main ground floor space is mostly open plan, divided between a sitting area at the front of the house, a dining area, conservatory/breakfast area leading out to the garden and a compact galley kitchen. There is a bathroom on the ground floor, while upstairs the principal bedroom at the front of the house has an en suite WC. There is a second bedroom at the rear with a storage cupboard.

Outside
On-street parking is available on Ferry Lane. The house is set behind a low wall and a pedestrian gate, with a tiled path leading up to the front door. To the rear there is a walled, courtyard-style garden which offers a low-maintenance outdoor space for entertaining, with room for pots and garden furniture.

Directions

From Marlow town centre head southwest out of the town along Henley Road (A4155) for about three miles. The village of Medmenham is clearly signposted, with the turning to Ferry Lane at the centre of the village opposite the phone box.
