Location

Foweys quays and beaches are perfect for exploring. The town, with its narrow winding streets and historic buildings, offers a mix of independent shops, galleries, restaurants and cafes. Landmarks include St Fimbarrus Church and the 14th century Place House, with the area being inspiration for many authors, including Daphne du Maurier.

A short trip across the Fowey Estuary on the Bodinnick Ferry takes you to the popular villages of Bodinnick and Polruan and further on Looe and Polperro.


Part of the Southwest Coast Path leads to Readymoney Cove, passing St Catherines Castle, a perfect place to pause and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the Estuary and beyond. Much of the surrounding woodland is owned by The National Trust.

Sailing and yachting facilities are available and the Fowey Royal Regatta and Carnival takes place in August each year.

EDUCATION - Both Fowey Primary and Fowey River Academy are both a short distance away. Further schools and colleges can be found in the surrounding towns of St Blazey and St Austell

Originally several workers cottages on the Treffry estate, and steeped in history, Hillhay Farm is a secluded wisteria cloaked Grade ll listed cottage tucked away on the outskirts of Fowey. Parts of this beautiful property date back to the 17th Century and much evidence of this can be seen throughout, including original slate flooring, dark oak beams and paneling, internal leaded windows and intriguing nooks.



Ground Floor - The entrance porch steps up into a large reception hallway with inglenook fireplace, oak beams and Delabole slate floor. The paned window, with shutters that can be found throughout the property, overlooks the front lawn. A good size boot room and utility, with Belfast sink and deep shelving, can be found to the right and a separate cloakroom and study to the rear. To the left the main reception room has a beautiful oak floor, shelving and cosy wood burner. Four paned windows, each with deep oak sills and storage, overlook the front gardens. A doorway leads to a light and airy breakfast room which in turn leads to the kitchen. Both rooms have hand made, in frame fitted units with 50mm solid walnut worksurfaces.


First Floor - Paneled stairs from the entrance hall ascend to a long paneled and beamed landing on the first floor. To the right is the second bedroom with views to the front and the spacious family bathroom to the rear. At the end of the landing, past the third bedroom and an internal window, the elegant, generously sized, principal bedroom has deep built in storage and fitted wardrobes. Two paned windows overlook the front and a step leads to a fantastic en suite, with free standing bath, rain shower, Fired Earth tiles, wc and stand alone basin.


The Cottage - A doorway in the kitchen of the main house leads to a rear hall with an airing cupboard, space for a washing machine and tumble dryer and a door leading to the rear garden. Stepping down, the slate floored kitchen has views to the front, bespoke in frame units and solid oak worksurfaces. At the far end of the hall, past a wc and separate shower room, both of which have stylish patterned floor tiles, is the second bedroom. The beautiful double height vaulted reception room has windows to the front and side, a cosy wood burner and stairs leading to the principal bedroom via a gallery landing. There is also a small porch providing a separate entrance to the cottage

The Shepherds Hut - A quaint, character accommodation, Honeybee is a successful holiday let with numerous features including wood burner, ceramic sink, brass taps and hand built wooden units. Outside is a south facing seating area and fire pit, perfect for enjoying the glorious sunset.

The Log Cabin - The south facing veranda leads to a reception room with double height curved ceiling, kitchen area, shower room and mezzanine bedroom access.


Exterior Front - The long private grass lined approach, past woodland, a grapevine and mature shrubs, leads to an area for ample parking. From here, entered through a stone arch and metal gates, the walled front garden is a delight, with mature plants, terraced manicured lawns and rills atop stone walls. The Linhay is an enchanting, harmonious haven, with stone floors, opening French doors to the front and glass roof. One of the original outbuildings, it is the perfect place to entertain, grow exotic plants or while away a sunny afternoon with a good book. A wood burner provides warmth in the winter and the useful store to the side is currently used as a gym.

Rear Garden - Grass pathways to the rear of the property, past an outside wc, lead to a large area of meadowland, perfect for vegetable patches. Also, solar panels, an old orchard and numerous fruit bushes, including rhubarb, blueberries, gooseberries and figs can be found.

Time must be taken to wander through the gardens of Hillhay Farm. About 2 acres in size there are many hidden details to enjoy; a stone lady gazing skywards from underground, commanding griffins guarding the way, traditional straddle stones and a fountain sitting over an ancient cavern, to name but a few. A shaded mossy path through woodland takes you around the perimeter, leading back to the entrance drive.

Directions

Follow either the A3082 or A3269 towards Fowey. At the roundabout take the A3269, signposted to the Bodinnick Car Ferry. After about 0.6 miles turn left onto Penventinie Lane. Pass over a bridge and the entrance to Hillhay Farm is a sharp turn on the right.
