4 Lochhouses Cottages sits in a quiet and peaceful countryside location close to the villages of Whitekirk and Tyninghame.

The surrounding East Lothian countryside offers beautiful views to the Lammermuir Hills and is renowned for its golf courses, with Muirfield, Gullane, Luffness and North Berwick all within reach. The John Muir Country Park, a haven for wildlife, is only a short distance away and there are some wonderful walks nearby, in Binning Wood and along Tyninghame Beach as well as the popular John Muir Way. Other expansive beaches along the East Lothian coast are also easily accessible.   Tyninghame village, with its cricket pitch, thriving café and shop and pretty village hall, is only a short distance from the house. East Linton, Dunbar and North Berwick are also nearby and provide excellent commuter train services, with the latter two, along with the county town of Haddington, also offering supermarkets, high street shops, banks, professional services, restaurants, pubs and cafés.

There are good local nursery, primary and secondary schools in the area and three well regarded independent schools: The Compass in Haddington (primary), Belhaven Hill in Dunbar (preparatory) and Loretto in Musselburgh (3-18). All the fee paying schools of Edinburgh are within easy reach and many have direct bus services from East Lothian.

4 Lochhouses Cottages is a pretty, stone built two storey Listed cottage with modern extension set in a wonderful rural location close to Tyninghame. The front of the property has a traditional look, but the rear has a striking extension designed by Helen Lucas Architects. This addition sits beautifully against the old stone building and is larch-clad with a zinc roof. Whilst the original entrance remains on the south side of the property, a new entrance vestibule is on the west side where there is a welcoming entrance hallway with skylight above and an exposed stone wall. Ahead is the kitchen and adjacent is a utility room with WC.

The kitchen forms the main part of the extension and has large sliding windows overlooking and leading out to the garden and patio. There is a bank of modern kitchen units with a granite worktop and integrated appliances which include an induction hob with extractor above, a double oven and fridge freezer. The room has plenty of space for a dining table and is lit by a large skylight. Pocket doors allow for the sitting room to be closed off or open plan. The sitting room has a wood burning stove and the oak flooring continues through to here from the kitchen.

There are three bedrooms at the cottage. The principal bedroom is on the ground floor and features an en suite shower room. The first floor hosts a further two bedrooms which share a shower room. Fabulous views can be enjoyed from the property, especially from the first floor over the surrounding countryside.

The garden sits to the rear of the cottage and is mainly laid to lawn and is bordered by well kept and colourful flowerbeds. To the back of the garden is a shed which is useful for beach gear and bikes. Closer to the house is a paved patio which is an ideal space for outdoor dining.

The surrounding countryside offers wonderful walks and the local beach at Tyninghame is not far away and can be reached on foot.
