The area is surrounded by farmland. The produce is mainly wine and table grapes. Wheat is grown in the greater valley. There are several well known wine farms as well as 6 popular wedding/function venues. It is popular with both local and international tourists. Riebeek is the birthplace of General Jan Smuts as well as DF Malan, both past prime ministers.
