Lydney town (approx. 3 miles away) offers a wide range of facilities including a variety of shops, banks, building societies and supermarkets, as well as a sports centre, golf course, hospital, doctors surgeries, train station, primary and secondary schools.

Land at Soilwell comprises about 136 acres of arable and pasture land. The arable is of the Eardiston and Withnell Series, well known for their productive capacities. The land is classified as Grade 3 according to the Agricultural Land Classification.

The land is mainly arable although there are a number of grass leys as well as a small acreage of permanent pasture. Surrounding the land and dividing the land are mature hedgerows. The land is well serviced by a metalled track that runs throughout the centre of the land.
