Building 98 has been painstakingly restored over the past 2 decades, returning to its former glory as the Fort D.A. Russell Officer's Club. Listed on the National Register of Historic places and as a Texas Register Landmark, this incredible property consists of the 10,000 square foot Officer's building on 2+ acres adjacent to the Chinati Foundation. In 2002, a major restoration was undertaken on the historic 10,000+ square foot adobe compound which features 2 oil-on-plaster murals painted by German P.O.W.s Hans Jürgen Press and Robert Humpel, both held at the base between 1943-1945. The adobe structure's layout is arranged with two courtyards and several wings. Surrounding the gracious interior courtyard, there are 3 galleries, 4 residential suites, an administrative wing, the original Club's bar room, a dining hall, and a commercial kitchen. Many of the original interior elements, including the original Club bar, the dining hall fireplace, and the elegant Ballroom millwork, were preserved and highlight the unique historical character.
