A four-bedroom apartment at the Plaza Hotel is on the market for $45 million
February 14, 2020 - Manhattan
At the iconic Plaza Hotel on New York’s Fifth Avenue, a gilded $45 million spread has been listed by a wealthy Russian family with a hearty appetite for luxury U.S. real estate.
The four-bedroom unit, which incorporates one of the building’s turrets, includes a wood-paneled study, a formal dining room and a great room for entertaining, according to the listing on the website of brokerage Douglas Elliman.
There is elaborate gold detailing on the doors, wall panels and even around the television set, listing pictures show. One of the bathrooms is decked out in floor-to-ceiling imported onyx.
The apartment is owned by a company tied to Olga Kogan. The company bought two units at the building in 2007 and 2008 and combined them; it paid roughly $26 million for both.
The Plaza has long drawn notable buyers, including fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger and London developer Christian Candy. Mr. Candy sold his unit for $32.7 million in 2017, while Mr. Hilfiger sold his unit for $31.25 million in 2019, records show.
While the properties traded for significantly less than their original asking prices, both sold for more than $5,000 a square foot, more than three times the Manhattan average.
Tal and Oren Alexander are the listing agents, according to the brokerage’s website.
