The Corby Mansion sells for $10 Million
March 31, 2020 - Chevy Chase
The Corby Mansion, a historic estate in the heart of Chevy Chase, Maryland, has sold for $10 million, records show.
It first came on the market in May 2018 for $25.9 million and underwent price cuts before being taken off the market last November. It wasn’t listed at the time of the sale.
Built in 1893 for Nevada Sen. Francis Newlands, the house is a well-known landmark in the suburb he founded.
The seven-bedroom Tudor Revival-style estate is nearly 14,000 square feet across 22 rooms, and includes a large mahogany library, music room with Aeolian organ pipes and a grand ballroom with an orchestra pit, according to the listing.
Listing images show elaborate gold detailing, ornate molded ceilings, a grand arched entryway and a large outdoor pool.
The most recent owner was Cleveland real estate businessman J.J. Cafaro. He bought the property for $1.975 million in 1991.
The buyer is the philanthropist Adrienne Arsht, according to Chuck Holzwarth of Washington Fine Properties, who represented her in the sale. Daniel Heider of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty represented the seller.
