Frank Lloyd Wright's final house is on the market for $8 million

Phoenix’s Circular Sun House, the last residence designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is back on the market.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed the house in 1959, and apprentice John Rattenbury took over as architect after Wright’s death in Phoenix that year at age 91.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home was completed in 1967 on 36th Street north of Lincoln Drive, on the edge of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.
It features a master suite with a balcony and a second-story office with 360-degree views. The grounds include ample patio space and a crescent pool lined with mother of pearl.
The mountainous terrain provided inspiration for the design and layout of the home. A series of overlapping and intersecting circles and arcs, the structure appears to merge with the curves of the cliffs and boulders into which it was built.
Many of the projects that Wright designed during the 1950s explored the use of geometric forms, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
The home was designed shortly before the opening of the Guggenheim, and like the museum, it explores the geometry of the circle.
The home was renovated in 1994, which involved updating the HVAC and electrical systems. Rattenbury helped the second owner transform the workshop into a media room and reconfigure the bedrooms, reducing the number to three from five.
The Norman Lykes House was originally listed in 2016 for $3.6 million, but found no takers even after several price drops.
It was finally sold at auction in October 2019 for just under $1.7 million to an out-of-state resident who had planned to keep the house intact and use it for vacations.
In early 2020, the property was listed for rent on Zillow Rental Manager for $15,900 per month. And this week, it returned to the market asking $7.95 million.
It’s unknown if there were any upgrades or significant investments in the home since 2019, but the price could be a response to the recent sale of the David and Gladys Wright House, which is also in Phoenix and also circular.
